Logos

Are you ready to spiff up your look? Is your logo looking a little dated? A logo says a lot about you and it needs to make sense immediately, and be specific and precise in its representation of you.

Let me know if you’re ready for a new look!

Waterfall Corridor Permit This program by ODOT was designed to help reduce congestion along the Historic Columbia River Gorge Highway. Each permit listed a time slot during which you can enter; once you’re in you can stay as long as you want. The program was only used for one season, while it reduced traffic jams it was unwieldy to manage.

Safe Rest Villages is a program by Portland Commissioner Dan Ryan to address our overwhelming problem of houselessness. It offers help to those needing to find stability and permanent housing. The logo design considers trauma-safe and accessible colors. Each of these images represent a service or resource of the program. The sites address the unsafe, unsanitary, and dehumanizing way of living that camping on the streets is.

For a biathlon, held at Skamokawa, an historic town on the lower Columbia River with an also-historic schoolhouse that serves as the town’s icon. I drew this simplified version of the schoolhouse. Skamokawa means “Smoke on the Water” in the Native American language, hence the smoke rising from the water!

Johnson Creek Corridor. Still one of my favorites, I did this many, many years ago and it is still in use on signs designating the watershed area. It represents the successful return of salmon to Johnson creek in Southeast Portland.

Sunday Parkways Logo Sunday Parkways is a fabulous program from Portland's Bureau of Transportation. I designed the original logo and all graphic identity for this popular summertime event. It’s still around!

Modern Railway Systems Logo To represent this heavy rail construction company I went with an industrial, yet classical, look.

PNCERS Logo The client wanted a “totem pole” image to represent the acronym of this organization. There were no existing crab images in the lexicon of Pacific Northwest Indians so I drew one myself, after carefully studying the shapes and curves and forms predicated by other totem designs.

Arch Bridge Restoration Project Logo. This historic and critically important connector bridge was closed for two years for seismic upgrades. I worked with ODOT to create a complete package of public outreach materials for the project. The project won an Award of Merit from the Public Relations Society of America for two years in a row!

Open Reservoir Logo The City of Portland was required to replace their uncovered reservoirs. The first one was at Mt. Tabor. It has a very nice iron fence around it so I used those details in the logo.

Oregon Association of Planners Annual Conference Logo This year’s was in Pendleton so a Western-themed logo was in order.

Summer Water Conservation Logo … You only need to water one inch a week to keep your lawn green!

Sandy Clean Waters project Goals for this program for the City of Sandy, Oregon are to protect the environment. The current wastewater plant is experiencing chronic permit violations. Improvements to the existing plant and building a new treatment plant will help Sandy responsibly steward the environment.

PBDG A logo to represent this organization of minority-owned businesses in the construction industry. I used the upward pointing logo to signify the upward trending nature of businesses who would become members of the group.

City Auditor Logo For this logo Ii wanted to represent the seriousness of the office so I used the front of Portland’s City Hall , representing government, and did a simple line drawing of it. The open doors are and important part of the concept!

I-5 Waterfronts There’s a huge, gigantic project that’s been on the books for years, it’s the I-5 Bridge across the Columbia River at Portland. I worked with a contingency of folks who are opposed to the current bridge design, it’s so high it will ruin the waterfronts of each city, not to mention dwarf downtown Vancouver. Sadly it seems like the towering bridge design will win.

Conference Logo for the Oregon APA The design criteria was to focus on Eugene and Oregon’s long running land use planning initiative, and to embrace the future. This logo successfully achieved all three goals.
